Tunngavia: Foundation for Development

The GN is pleased to share the 2018 Nunavut Socio-Economic Monitoring Report (NSEMR), the first territory-wide account of the impacts and benefits of mining in Nunavut. The NSEMR combines the 2017 annual regional reports with the intention of laying a foundation for the tracking of data trends over time.

The NSEMR includes data for the following Valuable Socio-Economic Components (VSECs):
Demographics
Health and Well-Being
Food Security
Education and Training
Housing
Economic Activity
Employment and Income
Inuit Language and
Traditional Activities and Skills

2016 Qikiqtaaluk SEMC meeting

The first regional SEMC meeting of 2016 was held in Iqaluit on July 20-21. Thank you to all participants who were able to attend. The meeting’s summary report will be posted to the Qikiqtaaluk page in the coming months.

Kitikmeot SEMC 2015 annual meeting

The Kitikmeot SEMC met on November 3-4 in Cambridge Bay to collectively monitor the regional benefits and impacts of resource development projects. The Committee was updated on the Doris North and Back River projects, and heard from a new company in the region, Kaizen Discovery Inc., about their recent summer exploration program. Thank you to everyone who attended and to Cambridge Bay for hosting a great week!

2015 Kivalliq SEMC meeting

A big thank you to the hamlet of Rankin Inlet for hosting the 2015 Kivalliq SEMC annual meeting, and to Agnico Eagle for the site tour of Meliadine! The Committee spent two days (October 27-28) discussing regional benefits and impacts of resource development, and conducted a comprehensive review of the latest draft Meadowbank Socio-Economic Monitoring Program report that is expected to be submitted by Agnico Eagle in the coming months. Meeting materials including presentations and the meeting report will be posted on the Kivalliq page shortly.
